Ahead of the Buganda Kabaka Birthday run, an event that precedes his birthday, the security agencies have issued various directives to ensure safety of the participants and the public in general.
Being a social - cultural event, the KMP spokesperson Luke Owesigyire deemed it imperative to sound a warning to political opportunists to desist from interfering with the event which is a few hours away.
“It's imperative to emphasize that the event is a cultural celebration for the kingdom, and we discourage any attempts to politicization.” Said Owesigyire
The Kabaka Birthday Run is a highly anticipated event on the Buganda Kingdom’s calendar as it precedes the celebration of the Kabaka, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, birthday which champions noble causes that resonate with the nationals' affairs. Just like the previous year, this year’s theme, “Men against AIDS to save the Girl Child”, reflects the collective efforts to fight the longtime global health challenge, HIV/AIDS.
This year’s event is expected to attract about 110000 participants as compared to last year where only 100000 people turned up. While as children are not allowed within the premises where the running activities shall ensue, the Police in partnership with the organizers shall set up a tent were lost and found children will be gathered.
Robert Sserwanga, the minister for Sports, talents and Youth affairs from the Buganda Kingdom, implored the participants to avoid indulging in political differences during the event given that it’s a call for all members to join in the fight against AIDS.
