With this, both the hearing and visually impaired individuals are able to read and comprehend the content encrypted in the Citizen’s Guide to the National Budget thence promoting inclusivity, accessibility and citizenship participation in the National budget processes.

Paul Mwanja, who represented the Permanent Secretary and Secretary to Treasury Ramathan Ggoobi at the MoFPED conference hall, noted that the Braille version will help to disseminate information about the Budget processes to even those who are unable to read or hear compared to the other platforms used.

“We majorly communicate the information on the Budget to our stakeholder through the budget website, social media platforms, workshops and printed books. However, we noted that with these conventional platforms the needs of our stakeholders with hearing and visual impairments were not reasonably being accommodated.”

The United Nations International Children’s Fund {UNICEF} country representative Dr.Moses Sichei commended the government of Uganda and the MoFPED in particular for the commitment to grant an equal opportunity of accessing information to every Ugandan.

The launch of Braille Audio Version for the Citizens Guide to the budget is believed to create provide budget information to visually impaired individuals, empowering them to engage in discussions, debates, and advocacy independently.
