The famous political activist Miria Matembe is tired of Ugandans' begging culture something she believes has fueled exploitation and impunitive manipulation of the citizenry by political leaders.
While addressing the fourth estate at the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) political party head office in Kampala on a Wednesday the 20th of March, the outspoken Matembe expressed her frustration over Ugandans shameless tendency of begging from their political leaders.
According to Matembe, such acts have exposed Ugandans to exploitative impunity and arrogance by the political leaders.
" .... why accept to be bought? Banange turabye we're poor, I used to live in this country, my father was a peasant they were poor peasants, but I never saw them begging, a senior citizen begging?...ondese otya?..."
On the same note, she accused the government of the negligence by looking on as young girls continue flocking to the Arab world for employment amidst life threatening imprecations something which she feels to be disheartening.
According to the Ministry of Gender labour and Social development, the government earned Shs25b from 120,459 migrant workers exported within a period between 2022 and 2023.
The money was mainly earned from expression of interest fees, fines, accreditation, job orders, and license fees.
