3die as a truck carrying revelers lost control into the lake in Namayingo

Three people have been announced dead and several injured as a vehicle lost control into a lake in Bumeru landing site in Mutumba subcounty of Namayingo district.

It's alleged that the victims were conducting a music show drive on a fuso registration number UAY 233 S for a local comedian known as DIKU-DIKU which was intended to be held at Mulombi B trading center in Mutumba subcounty. 

Eyewitnesses say they saw the vehicle overloaded with revelers being driven recklessly and the victims were shouting in lusoga word "enno edeemye"(meaning that it has failed/jammed).

It was to their surprise to see the vehicle diving into the lake waters and killed some of the people who were on it.


The deceased have been identified as Ngobi Waiswa, Okumu Ivan, Mayende Henry and several others including Mwima Nasiri, Musige Musalama, Wakabi Magumba, Suhar Habibu and a renown comedian in Busoga Diku-Diku.who was the chief performer at the anticipated event severely injured.

 The L.C 3 chairperson Mutumba Mugoya Katibu, subcounty blamed the unfortunate incident to the driver for over speeding and yet the vehicle was carrying mostly children aged starting from 14 years.

Betty Nabwire, the female L.C.V councilor for Mutumba subcounty blamed the parents for negligence to their children. 

Diana Nandawula, the Busoga East police spokesperson in phone interview with our reporter confirmed the incident and said that police has launched an investigation over the matter.

By press time, the victims were admitted in different health facilities like Masafu General Hospital,  Buyinja health center 4 among others.

Our efforts to hear from the police have been rendered futile, as the official mobile contact of the district police commander were not reachable.

Uganda Prisons register over 5000 cases of the contagious Red eyes infection

Photo - JK By our reporter While addressing the media at Naguru Police headquarters in Kampala today, the Spokesperson Frank Baine noted that approximately 5905 cases have so far been registered, of which 4704 have fully recovered, 1201 are still active and under treatment. Baine added that there are currently no critical cases and have never registered any deaths. The outbreak of the Conjunctivitis {Red Eyes disease} was confirmed by the Kampala Capital City Authority {KCCA} and the ministry of health early last month.
