Today, the 21st of March, Uganda joins the whole world to commemorate the International Education Day for the year 2024 under the theme "Learning for the lasting peace "

The celebrations were preceded by an Education exhibition which were launched by the State minister for Primary Education,  Joyce Moriku Kaducu at Kololo ceremonial grounds yesterday.

After touring all the stalls which showcased various innovations by learning institutions to enhance social life, Kaducu commended the government for the generosity with which it established the free education program known as Universal Primary Education (UPE) and USE at the secondary education level. The program is intended to provide an alternative to Ugandans who financially cannot afford the private schools education.

While as the minister of state for Higher Education John Crysestom Muyingo last Tuesday disclosed plans of implementing a free and compulsory UPE by 2025, questions about the quality of education offered in public schools cannot be swept under the carpet. To this, Kaducu maintained that the government has renewed its commitment to improve the quality of education dispensed by public schools.

"Our challenge as of today is about the quality of education, the Ministry of education and sports is committed to address the quality most especially in the rural schools..." said Kaducu while speaking at the launching of the education exhibition yesterday at Kololo.

In recognition of the 27 years of UPE, State ministers of education are expected to start the celebrations by marching from distinguished locations to Kololo ceremonial grounds where they will officiate the ceremonies activities.
